I go through bouts of why anyone would want to read my book and how there are plenty of other authors out there deserving the attention of an agent. Agents are busy people and have to wade through hundreds of submissions, so what chance do I have?
The book is sitting on my Mac in long form and three-chapter form. I've attempted a synopsis and a description. I've got a spreadsheet of potential agents who might be interested together with the agency, contact details, submission requirements, authors represented and Twitter details.
So far I've sent it to three agents and received one 'No thanks, not for me' email - better than I expected. It's finding the energy to keep sending the tome to agents.
It's not the fear of rejection - it's a yes or a no at the end of the day - but rather the tome isn't good enough to be sent.
I know what my media contact would say.
