The Gods of Guilt by Michael Connelly
I enjoy a good courtroom drama and especially when the author is Michael Connolly; a writer who can deliver a set up, unravel the strands and take the reader on a thrilling journey of suspense, mystery and intrigue.
I’ve read and enjoyed the Bosch books for many years but haven’t been so invested in others by Connolly. I knew they were there, just had not had the inclination to read.
“The Gods of Guilt” by Michael Connelly is a gripping legal thriller that follows the story of Mickey Haller, a criminal defense attorney who is tasked with defending a client accused of murder.
The story starts with a man accused of the murder of a prostitute. Our hero, Mickey Haller, discovers he represented the victim a few years before. Then we’re off on the story rollercoaster.
As the case unfolds, Mickey finds himself drawn into a web of lies and deceit, and must use all of his legal skills and intuition to uncover the truth and clear his client’s name.
Connelly’s writing is sharp and engaging, with well-developed characters and a fast-paced plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.
The story is full of twists and turns, and the courtroom scenes are particularly well-written and realistic, capturing the tension and drama of a high-stakes trial.
One strength of The Gods of Guilt is Connelly’s attention to detail and his ability to create a vivid sense of place (a strength found in the Harry Bosch books).
The novel is set in Los Angeles, and Connelly’s descriptions of the city and its various neighborhoods are both accurate and evocative, adding depth and richness to the story.

The ending was intriguing only because the gift wasn’t wrapped if you get my meaning and the reader has to work for it. Quality read.
