As is pointed out, the banks have had the resources to make things better for customers but never did so because it would cannibalise their money making model. The book details the startups that have changed or changing the banking industry.
The Money Hackers is a good read as it provides short and to the point style of writing and gives an excellent understanding of how the banks were challenged by many.
