The Sinner on Netflix
The casting in this TV series was superb. Jessica Biel and John Pullman. Together!
This is a psychological thriller that follows Harry Ambrose (John Pullman) as a police investigator trying to uncover Cora Tennetti’s (Jessica Biel) buried motive for stabbing to death a stranger on a beach.
There are many dark recesses in Tennetti’s mind and she struggles to come to grips with what she’s done while trying to unlock the secrets in her brain that will – hopefully shed light on her crime.
Along the way, we are introduced to varied and colourful characters intertwined with Ambrose and Tennetti.
The flashbacks were jarring with uncomfortable scenes, and language that left me unsettled.
[I thought Nadia Alexander turned in a stunning performance as Cora’s older sister Phoebe) especially in the last two episodes when the material was dark and disturbing.]
We discover Ambrose is far from an ordinary police officer and there is clearly something troubling about his past, too.
If you’re looking for a good thriller with some psychological depth, then I would definitely recommend The Sinner.
[I only found out afterwards that The Sinner is an adaptation of a book by Petra Hammesfahr.]
I felt the last twist was rushed and made little sense until I looked it up. Full credit to Pullman and Biel for pulling an amazing performance out of the bag.
Overall, well worth watching even if there are some harrowing parts.
The Sinner was the first season four series.
